The island portion of the province of Newfoundland provides a spectacular backdrop for Targa Newfoundland. This world class event takes competitors through sweeping vistas, along rugged coastlines, through remote communities while allowing participants to meet and mingle with Newfoundlanders so they can experience first hand our warm hospitality.

We use Google Earth to help you develop a sense of the route each year - please find below our updated maps for 2008. If you do not already have Google Earth you will need to download the Google Earth software first in order to view these files.

The actual route is comprised of a technical day, a prologue and five days of full on competition. The event begins and ends in one of North America’s most vibrant and oldest city’s – St. John’s! Each day competitors are challenged with a combination of closed road competition stages and transits to allow easy movement from stage to stage.

Often times the event doubles the population of the communities in which we stop - you'll be cheered on by families, friends and supporters from the roadside, decks and front porches. In Newfoundland & Labrador, you'll find thousands of hard core Targa fans.

Lunches are supplied by local groups in varied venues from historic buildings to local community centres to recreational parks. While time may not permit you with a chance to spend as much time as you'd like at our heritage structures, our daily newsletters for you will be full of Newfoundland trivia.

Each night there’s a car show - your chance to be a car racing hero as hundreds of children seek out your autograph and take pictures of you and your car. These car shows are a pivotal part of the Targa experience as it provides a return to those people who allow us access to their roads for entertainment. Of course, locals also love the opportunity to learn about your car and just what makes it special!

The basic rally route is similar each year as we are limited on the availability of accommodations outside the capital city. However, Targa Newfoundland has hired a professional team of course setters that come in each year and find the most interesting stages to re-fresh the route.

There’s no question Targa Newfoundland provides serious competition for those who want it and for those who don’t, the Grand Touring option allows teams to compete while not pushing their limits. The annual route is generally final about 60 days before the start.

Come join us and have the adventure of a lifetime! You'll be glad you did...
